Hello world! At long last I have joined the ranks of blogging! Thank you Katie for your encouragement – (I finally listened to you-you are such a good friend!)
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Emily Gilbert. I am a wife to a great man, Big G (I am a lucky girl. I will have to share with you our little love story one day), a mother to a one year old boy, Little G, and a designer.
I have been in the design industry for 9 years and opened up Emily Gilbert Designs in 2010. Learning to balance a growing business and motherhood has been one of the most difficult challenges I have experienced, ….and I wouldn’t have it any other way. As Oprah once said, “you can have it all, just not at the same time.” I’m working on that.
Here you will find my design musings, project sneak peaks, and other fun facts. I intend to keep you inspired and encouraged, and hopefully blessed.
Elsie de Wolfe said it well. Creating beautiful surroundings in an effort to impact one’s experience for the better is my passion. Living Well Nested.
A few more fun facts about me:
I am a dessert-aholic (and working on getting into recovery). I will get hooked on a particular dessert, and it is all I crave. After exhausting my taste buds, I move on to another sweet temptation to become passionate about. My current obsession is Curly’s Custard. One VERY BERRY CONCRETE please!
Fort Worth is in my opinion one of best cities in the country. I hate to let everyone in on this secret. The word may spread and it won’t be quite the same. But in all honesty, it has some wonderful people, great places to eat, and all around, it just feels good living here.
If I were to see anyone in concert it would probably be Jim Gaffigan. I can re-watch his stand up over and over and over. Laugh everytime.
Favorite Holiday: Definitely Thanksgiving. It’s beginning to get crisp (down South), the comfort food is cooking, and it’s an opportunity to reflect on blessings without the hurry and hustle-bustle of Christmas. I am thankful for Thanksgiving!
Lastly, what’s my style? I lean toward a relaxed aesthetic with eclectic elements. No dressed up rooms in my house. This is truly due to the stage of life our family is in (sticky fingers and silk – not a good combo!). I have an appreciation for most all styles and love the opportunity to work in different genres. It keeps things interesting. The curse of the designer – always editing our personal home. I have a very patient husband. I’ll share some project photos soon to give you a glimpse of my work!
Till then, thank you for reading! I hope all have a fabulous Labor Day weekend!
I wish we planned on doing this…..
……but alas, I will be cleaning the garage!
See you next week!
